Collecting the stamps of the European countries can be exciting. These countries offer stamp issues from the early classics to modern topical issues. Collectors are attracted to the issues from Europe because of an interest in history, cultural aspects or because of their personal heritage. You can form a traditional country collection or collect European issues for their topical content. One of the favorite topics is "Europa". Issues which are categorized as such provide the history and background for the cooperation among the European nations which was initiated after World War II. The first Europa issues were produced in 1956 and have been produced every year since 1956. From 1974, the annual issues of Europa stamps has been issued featuring a specific topic. These annual groups offer the possibility of forming nice topical collections. For example, the 2007 issues feature the Centenary of the Boy Scout movement.
The Europa issues were in great demand and the prices for them became inflated in 2002-2006. This was a result of investment schemes developed in Europe by Afinsa. This company became the focus of legal investigations and ultimately received legal action against them. The prices for the Europa issues is now correcting to more reasonable levels. Because of the activities of Afinsa, many collectors have become wary of building their collections of these issues. However, the Europa issues can provide an interesting collecting area and should be considered. They offer a lot of possibilities to collect First Day Covers, collateral material etc. Of course, they can be collected in Mint Unmounted, Mint, or used condition. Be sure to take a look at the items offered in my inventory in the category of "Europa Stamps"
